Real-World AI

Throughout my career I've had the opportunity to work on—and later oversee—the development and deployment of AI systems across a wide range of mission-critical applications. From autonomous spacecraft and maritime systems to healthcare, transportation, critical infrastructure, and decision intelligence, these efforts span nearly three decades of applying AI to complex real-world challenges.

The examples below are representative rather than comprehensive. They illustrate publicly disclosed programs and technologies that reflect both the evolution of AI and my own journey helping bring it into operational use.

Autonomy

Autonomy extends human capability by enabling systems to perceive, plan, decide, and act with progressively less direct human control. But deploying these systems into the real world requires dealing with edge cases, managing uncertainty, and developing comprehensive assurance regimes. I've had the opportunity to work on, oversee, and help deploy rigorously tested autonomous systems spanning space, maritime, and airborne domains.

Security

AI in security applications helps protect people, infrastructure, and organizations by helping detect threats and support timely decisions. I've been a part of designing, building, delivering, and governing AI systems spanning cybersecurity, aviation security, cargo inspection, and physical security.

Transportation

Applied to transportation, AI can improve the safety, efficiency, and resilience of systems that move people and goods. Examples of AI solutions I've worked on and governed include mission-critical software, aviation operations, and logistics and supply chains.

Critical Infrastructure

Used effectively, AI improves the reliability, resilience, and performance of critical infrastructure while improving the scalability of digital design. Examples of my work in this area include AI for energy systems, industrial operations, and disaster response.

Healthcare

AI in healthcare can improve patient outcomes, accelerate scientific discovery, and enhance the delivery of care. But it must be designed and used responsibly, protecting sensitive information and built to the highest standards. I've worked on and overseen trusted health AI solutions that range from biomedical research to medical imaging to healthcare operations.

Decision Intelligence

Decision intelligence driven by AI transforms data into actionable insight, helping people make faster, better-informed decisions in complex environments. I've developed and governed decision intelligence solutions that span command and control, predictive analytics, and intelligence analysis.
